HIKWAY MDVR in Singapore Heavy Vehicle Management System(HVMS) Project

This project is a government driven safety solution to improve the drivers behavior and elliminate the accidents caused by the heavy vehicles.

The first stage is a Test Pilot, the goals are: To measure the effect of the new “HVMS”safety program on the DRIVING BEHAVIOR of normal drivers.

If Driving behavior improves:

To estimate the effect of the “improved driving behavior” – on the LEVEL of RISK for future car accidents.

To estimate the effect of the improved driving behavior – on the LEVEL of FUEL CONSUMPTION.

Description

100 Drivers/Vehicles

4 Weeks BLIND STAGE:

To collect the regular driving behavior data - for all the drivers, as a base for measuring future changes in driving behavior.

The drivers were told that the systems are “not active yet until the presentation meeting”.

13 Weeks – OPEN STAGE:

A Detailed Presentation to drivers about technical functions, data collection and the “driving evaluation system” for the purpose of improving the Risk-management driving skills.

Activating Audio/Visual Warnings in the vehicle – for ongoing driving feedback - in real time during driving.

-Weekly Feedback to each driver by email, with the previous week personal driving data, and tips of how to improve.

The drivers were encouraged to reach the GREEN ZONE

 “ADAS Alert”:

1. SAFE HEADWAY Distance keeping:

An event is registered at less then 1.0 seconds from the car ahead.

2. Unintentional Lane Departure:

An event is registered when vehicle changes lane without turn signal - at speed of more than 55 kmh.

3. Forward Collision Warning:

An event is registered when vehicle is 2.7 seconds before possible impact with the vehicle ahead.

“DMS Alert”:

1. Driver Eye Closed (2 Seconds):

2. Driver Yawning (0.8 Seconds):

3. Driver using Handphone

4. Driver Smoking

5. Other Alerts

After the Test Pilot stage, the project will come to fully installation stage of all the heavy vehicles in Singapore. And we wish to help the government, the fleet owners and drivers to reach the goal of safety driving there.

The light spot is the use of ADAS and DSM on all these trucks for safety driving purpose:
